New Skokholm Book(let)

We have just taken delivery of a few hundred copies of a new booklet (its 85 pages long) called The Island Artist by Ann and Martin Lockley (Ronald Lockleys children).

The soft cover book is a lovely collection of Doris (Do) Lockley's sketches (Ronald's first wife who lived on Skokholm with him in the 1930's) many of which adorned Ronald's books and articles over the years but were rarely acknowledged.

Martin and Ann have carefully selected the surviving sketches, which were scattered in notebooks and on postcards, and added a bit of historic background to both Do and her work so that we are presented with a collection which not only demonstrates the skills of the artist but also seeks to show how she contributed to her and Ronald's life on Skokholm.

The book will sell for just £5 at the Friends meeting in February and on the island or we can post it to you - and the price will then be £6.30 to covert the postage costs. A cheque made payable to "The Friends of Skokholm and Skomer" posted to the Treasurer at Old School House, Marloes, SA62 3BQ.  The first 60 copies sold will be signed by Martin Lockley.

Its an absolute delight to dip into this and learn more about the island (even its historic names going back to 1276) and to see both photographs and sketches bringing to life again a long lost age.
